What is Pelvic Floor Pilates?

Pelvic Floor Pilates and exercises are designed by our Shelbourne staff to help people, women and men, improve pelvic floor fitness.

Pelvic Floor Pilates was created to provide a widely accessible method of recovering or enhancing pelvic floor strength.  Pelvic floor fitness is essential for normal bladder and sexual function. Common problems such as urinary incontinence, vaginal prolapse, and poor sexual satisfaction are all associated with pelvic floor muscle weakness.

Women’s Health Pilates for Pelvic floor

Pelvic Floor Pilates is intended to be preventative but also a therapeutic alternative for those already experiencing symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction. For patients that have already had surgery, Pelvic Floor Pilates can help protect the investment and reduce the chance for recurrent symptoms.

 

Pfilates for pre/post natal care

 

Pelvic Floor Pilates is a great pre and postnatal fitness option for pelvic floor strength and can also work to help restore some cases of diastasis. Please check with your doctor as to whether pilates  is appropriate for you.

Private Pilates Sessions:

Private Sessions available daytime and evening – these may be eligible to be covered under extended health care if you are under the care of one of our Physiotherapists. Our Shelbourne Physiotherapists Alex Thompson, Laura Werner, Sarah Hubbs, Eimear Brogan, Jenna Peters and Penny Salmas have specialized training in pelvic health. – See Clinical Pilates

Pelvic Floor Pilates Workshops are designed to:

 

  • Help you understand the muscles of the pelvic floor, where they are & how they function
  • Educate you about weakness in the pelvic floor muscles that result in disorders such as incontinence & pelvic organ prolapse
  • Teach you specific exercises to condition the appropriate muscles focusing not only on strength, but endurance & coordination

The workshop will include an informational interactive presentation as well as an exercise portion.

If you do not have a pilates/yoga mat we do have a limited amount at the studio.
